Pipetech International is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pipeline Technologies Inc, incorporated in 1995 to apply the latest technologies to extend the useful life of pipelines. PTI’s initial focus was the adaptation of acoustic emission technology to the diagnostic condition assessment of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe, or PCCP, which was widely used throughout the water and wastewater industry. In 1996, PTI performed the first commercial application of this technology in the world, successfully identifying areas of severe distress on a vital pipeline in north Texas. That technology was perfected and evolved into the patented autonomous hydrophone system which continues in use through the world today. Within 10 years acoustic emission technology became the industry standard for diagnostic testing of PCCP.
Pipetech International was formed in 2003 as a subsidiary of PTI to address the need to for pipeline operators to detect and record transient pressure events occurring randomly in water and petroleum pipelines. In 2004 the firm installed the first TP-1 Transient Pressure Monitoring System to meet this need. The TP-1 system is unique in its ability to monitor a pipeline for indefinite periods of time, and detect a transient and activate a high-speed recorder to capture the most severe water hammer event in detail. The benefits of this powerful, patented TP-1 system are becoming more widely recognized by hydraulic engineers and pipeline operators on a daily basis, as the list of successful case studies continues to grow.
Pipetech International’s experience in the design, construction, operation and failure analysis of pipelines will continue to identify the technological needs of the pipeline industry, and to develop the systems to meet these needs.
